While we are typically referring to just thinning hair, some Atkins dieters have reported substantial hair loss.  Unfortunately the science behind this is still somewhat murky. So what can you do?</p>
<p>For starters, make sure you are taking a well-balanced multi-vitamin.  Most Atkins dieters will recommend Centrum Silver because it does not contain iron (your diet should more than provide this).  Also make sure you look at additional supplements such as a B-Complex tablet, Vitamin E, and an essential oils capsule.  This can significantly help your hair thinning and prevent further hair loss.</p>
<p>The problem is often not just related to diet however.  Consider your lifestyle.  Do you frequently feel stressed or over-worked? Are you missing too much sleep?  Even something as simple as regular hair-washing or a scalp massage can stimulate hair folicles into growth.  You can also look at the various products for hair gorwth such as Rogaine, but women need to be especially careful when looking at these products.  They often contain testosterone or other hormones that can be harmful in larger doses for women.  In short, while the <strong>Atkins diet plan</strong> can cause hair thinning, it usually stops over time and hair begins to regenerate.</p>

Dr. Atkins attempted to directly answer this point in the more recent revisions to his book.  Although there are no limits on certain foods such as meat, the book is certainly not a &#8220;license to gorge&#8221;.  There are strict limits on where and how you should get your carbohydrates, and what the percentage of protein to vegetables should be.  Additionally there ARE specific limits on many food types such as cheeses.</p>

This seems to arise from the confusion between ketosis and ketoacidosis.  As noted earlier at <a href="http://atkinsmenu.net/atkins-diet-phases/" title="Atkins Diet Phases">Atkins Diet Menu Plan</a>, Ketosis is a perfectly natural metabolic process for switching from the burning of glucose to the burning of fat.  Ketoacidosis is the inability to utilize glucose due to a lack of insulin, which results in accumuklation of ketones and sever dehydration.  This can occur with diabetics, alchoholics, and in starvation.  They are NOT the same thing.</p>
<h2>Misconception #3</h2>
<p>&#8220;You aren&#8217;t allowed to eat ANYTHING&#8221;</p>
<p>The Reality<br />
This usually rises out of people simply looking at the Induction phase of the diet without considering the rest of the progression.  Although some people can and do stay in Induction for many months, most will move on to the OWL phase within a month or two.  While Induction is challenging in terms of variety, it is necessary to put the body in ketosis and help break the dependency on sugars, caffeine, and other mental reasons people eat.</p>
<h2>Misconception #4</h2>
<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s no fiber in the Atkins diet&#8221;</p>
<p>The Reality<br />
Again, people are taking Induction as an indicator of the complete diet.  Additionally, many people who start Atkins end up eating far more vegetables than they ever did before.  People who properly follow the program and maintain healthy ratios of vegetables should have absolutely no issues with fiber.  If additional fiber is desired, supplements such as flask seed or psyllium husks can also be taken.</p>
